An Ode to Piccola Cucina Sicilian Osteria

What interested us about Piccola Cucina was its specificity. Italian cuisine is often treated as one broad category, but Sicily carries its own ingredients, histories, and ways of composing flavor. Chef Philip Guardione’s cooking stays close to that regional identity, drawing from the recipes he learned from his grandmother and the food culture he grew up with near Mount Etna.

At the same time, those traditions are not treated as fixed. His experience across Milan, Paris, and New York becomes part of how Sicilian food is interpreted now. That relationship between regional identity, inherited taste, and reinterpretation is what made Piccola Cucina especially relevant to Raison d’Être.
